Bruce Van Kooten, CFA®

Partner and Portfolio Manager
Lawson Kroeker is one of the few institutions, big or small, that not only has a clear vision for the future, but is also inherently built around a team and culture that self-preserves and has a clear plan in the best interests of all clients.
– Bruce Van Kooten, CFA®
Partner and Portfolio Manager

Bruce Van Kooten was raised on a farm in north central Iowa and attended Iowa State University in Ames. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics, he worked for five years at a Bank Trust Department in Fort Dodge. In 1982, Bruce and his wife left Fort Dodge and began work in the Trust Investment Department of The First National Bank of Omaha, where he began to hone his investment skills working under Frank Lawson.

After earning his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1987, Bruce left First National in 1988 and joined the Research and Portfolio Management areas of KPM Investment Management (a Mutual of Omaha subsidiary) for the next eleven years, writing investment research and managing individual and institutional portfolios.

In 2000, Bruce moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked at Norwest Bank, NA. Following Norwest’s merger and name change to Wells Fargo, Bruce worked as Senior Portfolio Manager for Wells Fargo Private Asset Management.

In April of 2006, Bruce was called back to Omaha to become a partner in Lawson Kroeker Investment Management, where he was reunited with Frank Lawson and Tom Sudyka (from his KPM days) and reacquainted with Ken Kroeker, whom he had known earlier in his career.

Bruce brings to Lawson Kroeker more than 45 years of investment and Portfolio Management experience, a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and membership in the local CFA® society.
