Partner and Portfolio Manager
Lawson Kroeker plans to be around forever, passing the firm's philosophy and management from one generation to the next. The company’s commitment to remaining an independent investment management firm serving the Omaha community aligned with my beliefs in the beginning. It still does.

Partner and Portfolio Manager

Some of Tom’s earliest education toward money was gained when his grandfather took him to the Nebraska horse racetracks between the ages of six and 12. It was there that he first learned about odds, math, predicting, investing and how (or not) to handle money.

Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Creighton University, then received his MBA from the University of Nebraska while working at his first full-time investment position. He became a CFA® Charterholder in 1989 and has over 35 years of experience in the investment industry. However, his education has never stopped. Tom earned the chartered analyst in philanthropy (CAP) in 2018 and is still motivated by a desire to learn additional ways to help Lawson Kroeker clients.

Tom’s career started in the institutional investment world, but Omaha was the natural choice when he shifted to focusing on managing investments for families and foundations. Tom grew up in Omaha, but on a professional level, he views the investment community in Omaha as well respected, yet not cut-throat competitive.

“When talking with different investment firms over 20 years ago, I knew right away that the chance to spend most of my time and investment efforts on a small group of clients at Lawson Kroeker was appealing,” says Tom.

Tom feels that not being constantly bombarded with Wall Street’s need to do something allows him to take the time to listen to clients and think about what investments are more appropriate.

Tom has served as a trustee on the St. Cecilia Cathedral Educational Endowment and with the Archdiocese of Omaha, where he is currently chair and trustee for the Omaha Archdiocesan Educational and Parish Endowment Funds.

Tom is married to Kathryn and talks with pride about his children and grandchildren.
